When working on a new project for a new business and brand, I always start by creating a Mood Board. A Mood Board is simply a collage of random images, colors, phrases, textures, pictures, cultural references, movie posters, any and all those things that might reflect what a brand’s aesthetic should look like and what the message behind the brand should be.
It really is a very simple creative exercise, but it should not be overlooked as a necessary first step. A Mood Board is 100% spontaneous, like a stream of conciseness writing exercise but in visual form.
